Hunter Biden receives a presidential pardon from President Joe Biden

President Joe Biden announced on Sunday that he has pardoned his son Hunter Biden, who was convicted of federal gun felonies and tax charges earlier this year. The president stated that he believes his son was unfairly targeted and that raw politics had infected the process, leading to a miscarriage of justice. Hunter Biden was found guilty of falsely filling out a federal form when purchasing a firearm, lying to a gun dealer, and failing to pay taxes from 2016-2019. He was expected to be sentenced for both convictions. In a statement after his pardon, Hunter Biden admitted his mistakes during his addiction and vowed to help others in recovery. President Biden had previously said he would not interfere with the Justice Department’s decision-making and had initially stated he would not pardon his son. However, he cited a plea deal that fell apart in July 2023 as a fair resolution to Hunter’s cases. Biden emphasized that there was no other reason for his son being targeted other than the fact that he is his son. The president concluded by saying “enough is enough” and expressed his frustration with the situation.
