Four people were killed and 23 others injured in an Israeli strike on central Beirut, Lebanon. The attack completely destroyed an eight-story residential building in the Basta neighborhood. The Israeli military did not warn residents to evacuate before the attack, and it was the fourth strike targeting the center that week. Security sources reported that at least four bombs were dropped in the attack, which occurred early in the morning. This came after a day of bombardment in Beirut’s southern suburbs and the city of Tyre.
The Israeli military had issued evacuation notices before strikes in other areas, and there has been ongoing heavy fighting between Israel and Hezbollah in southern Lebanon. The conflict has been ongoing for over a year and was ignited by the Gaza war. The US envoy has been in the region to try to end the fighting, with some progress indicated after meetings with both Lebanese and Israeli leaders.
According to the Lebanese health ministry, Israel has killed over 3,500 people in Lebanon and wounded more than 15,000, displacing about 1.2 million people. Israel has reported casualties on their side as well. The situation remains tense as the conflict continues.
