Kauai Offers Free Transportation on Election Day to Encourage Voter Participation
LIHUE — In a bid to enhance voter accessibility, all public transportation services on Kauai will be free of charge on Tuesday, November 5, coinciding with Election Day. The Kauai Bus has announced that both its fixed routes and paratransit services will be available at no cost, allowing residents to easily reach polling places and fulfill other essential travel needs.
Celia Mahikoa, Executive of the County of Kauai Transportation Agency, expressed her hopes for increased voter turnout. “Passengers across the island can take advantage of the free service throughout the day, whether traveling to polling stations or for other essential trips,” she stated. This initiative aims to remove barriers for those who may face challenges getting to the ballot box.
Residents are encouraged to take part in the electoral process and utilize Kauai Bus services for safe and accessible transportation to vote. For those looking to plan their trips, detailed bus schedules can be found at www.kauai.gov/BusSchedules or by calling 808-246-8110.
Additionally, voters seeking more information about the 2024 General Election and the voting process can visit kauaivotes.com or reach out to the Office of the County Clerk, Elections Division at 808-241-4800.
This proactive measure by Kauai officials underscores the importance of civic engagement and aims to ensure that every resident has the opportunity to participate in shaping their community’s future.
