US authorities charge suspected gunman with attempted assassination of Trump

Donald Trump News

Ryan Routh, 58, has been remanded in custody after being charged with attempted assassination of a political candidate for allegedly staking out former President Donald Trump’s Florida golf course with a rifle. The Justice Department has emphasized that violence against democracy will not be tolerated and those responsible will be held accountable. Routh, who has not yet entered a plea, faces a maximum sentence of life in prison. Court documents have revealed evidence suggesting a plan to kill Trump, including a note offering $150,000 for anyone who could “finish the job.” Routh was found near the golf course and Mar-a-Lago Estate with a loaded rifle, but did not fire any shots at Trump. He was arrested after being spotted by a US Secret Service agent and fleeing the scene. This incident occurred two months after Trump was shot and wounded in an assassination attempt during a campaign rally. The Secret Service has acknowledged security failings leading up to that incident, but maintains that security measures were effective in preventing an attack in Florida. Routh’s trial is pending, with the attempted assassination charge carrying significant consequences if found guilty.
