Russian-American YouTuber Vitaly Zdorovetskiy Detained in the Philippines Over Disruptive Behavior
Philippine authorities have detained Russian-American YouTuber Vitaly Zdorovetskiy following his disruptive actions during a filming shoot in Bonifacio Global City. The 33-year-old prankster, known for his YouTube channel boasting over 10 million subscribers, was arrested in April after reportedly harassing local residents.
Russian Ambassador to the Philippines, Marat Pavlov, addressed the situation during a recent Victory Day reception, urging Russian tourists to adhere strictly to Philippine laws. “They are obliged to be in conformity with the law of the country they are staying in,” he stated.
Zdorovetskiy has been declared an “undesirable foreign national” by immigration authorities and is currently held at Camp Bagong Diwa in Taguig. His deportation has been halted due to multiple criminal charges he faces, potentially resulting in a prison sentence of up to 24 years if convicted. Philippines Interior Secretary Jonvic Remulla confirmed that Zdorovetskiy would remain in detention while awaiting trial, emphasizing that he would be held accountable under local laws.
Despite the Russian Embassy’s offer of assistance, Zdorovetskiy has reportedly not responded to their outreach. Ambassador Pavlov acknowledged the embassy’s coordination with Philippine authorities but hinted that the prankster may be navigating this on his own. He also expressed hope that incidents involving Russian nationals would be handled discreetly, without excessive publicity.
Amidst the unfolding situation, Filipino President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. voiced disappointment over Zdorovetskiy’s actions, affirming the country’s stance against bullying by foreigners. As the case progresses, the focus remains on ensuring adherence to local customs and laws by all visitors.
