Kauai, Hawaii – Miss Kauai Filipina contestant Ciaralan Tolentino expressed her surprise at the staggering amount of cigarette butts littered across the lawn during a recent beach clean-up event at Hanamaulu Beach Park, organized by the Kauai Filipino Community Council. The event, held on the third Sunday of the month, aims to promote community involvement in environmental preservation.
President Nancy Apalla shared insights from her husband, who is involved with the Philippine Island Hawaii Island (PIHI) bicycle group. He has recently taken an interest in the railroad trestle, a future feature in Kauai Pathways’ long-term plans towards Nawiliwili, showcasing ongoing community efforts toward sustainable development.
Additionally, in preparation for the upcoming Miss Hawaii Filipina state pageant scheduled on Kauai in August, contestant coordinator Liz Kawamura announced the involvement of a teacher from the Philippines, Jordan, who brings a wealth of experience in stage productions.
In other community news, local artist Carol Yotsuda has plans to host a hands-on learning event at the Boroboro Boutique in the Kauai Society of Artists gallery, introducing traditional sewing techniques. This event, set for the weekend, is a creative collaboration that will involve printing cards and using vintage sewing machines.
The North Shore Lions Club is also contributing to community spirit by utilizing a lakeside property for a scholarship gathering, coinciding with reunion photos of Kilauea Elementary School alumni.
These activities reflect the strong community ties on Kauai and the shared commitment to environmental stewardship, cultural celebration, and education.
