On May 16, six out of ten inmates managed to escape from a New Orleans jail by removing a toilet and accessing a hole in the wall behind it. The escape commenced around 1 a.m. when they pried open a faulty cell door. By May 19, three inmates had been recaptured, including Gary Price, a 21-year-old charged with murder, domestic abuse, and aggravated assault. Price now faces additional charges for the escape itself. The remaining fugitives include Corey Boyd, Leo Tate, Jermaine Donald, Derrick Groves, Lenton Vanburen, and Antoine Massey, with ongoing searches for their capture.
Authorities, including Louisiana Governor Jeff Landry, are determined to locate and recapture the escapees, emphasizing that efforts will continue until the streets are cleared of these individuals. Officials suspect that the inmates received assistance from someone within the facility, as well as potential help from the public. As the search continues into its fifth day, the community remains on alert for any leads regarding the whereabouts of the remaining escapees.
