Press Release: Dog Rescued from Kuliʻouʻou Trail by Honolulu Fire Department

HONOLULU (KHON2) — The Honolulu Fire Department (HFD) responded swiftly on April 26 to a distress call regarding a dog in trouble on the Kuliʻouʻou Trail in ʻAina Haina. The call came in just before 1 p.m., prompting an immediate dispatch of emergency units.

First responders arrived on the scene within approximately 10 minutes and were informed that the dog, a black Labrador named Sammie, had fallen near a ridgeline. HFD personnel were quickly deployed to reach Sammie, ensuring her safety and comfort during the rescue operation. Remarkably, Sammie was safely airlifted to a nearby landing zone without any injuries.

In light of this incident, HFD emphasizes the importance of responsible pet ownership during outdoor activities. They recommend that dog owners ensure their pets are equipped with a properly fitted, durable, and comfortable harness and leash. Additionally, keeping dogs hydrated with fresh water is crucial while hiking.

This successful rescue highlights not only the efficiency of local emergency services but also the critical safety measures that pet owners should take while enjoying outdoor activities.
