Waimea High School’s girls flag football team made history by winning the Central Pacific Bank Kauai Interscholastic Federation championship in a thrilling 7-6 victory over Kauai High School. Despite challenging weather conditions, the Menehune squad fought back after Kauai took an early lead in the game. Quarterback Wailana Tanigawa-Christian led the team to victory, connecting with her receivers to tie the game and secure the winning point after touchdown.
The tournament featured intense competition from all KIF member schools, with Waimea ultimately emerging victorious under the coaching of Jason Caldeira. They will now advance to the Hawaii High School Athletic Association Girls Flag Football State Championships, set to take place from April 30 to May 3. The state tournament will include 16 teams and be held at Mililani and Pearl City.
