In the latest installment of the Nawiliwili Yacht Club Shakedown Series, Race No. 2, the competition was fierce as six boats, including the Sydney 36 Bonjolea II and five Olson 30s, battled it out under light 9-knot winds. Bonjolea II, skippered by Bonnie Tiffany, had dominated the opening race but faced tough competition in this race.
Despite capturing line honors with a finish time of 57:45, Bonjolea II was ultimately pushed into third place on corrected time behind OZone and Fiasco. OZone, skippered by Chris Jordan, claimed victory with a corrected time of 57:52, narrowly beating Fiasco. The race featured exciting moments, including a protest from Speedy against Kato near the G-11 buoy, leading to Kato’s retirement.
The race also saw strategic maneuvering as Bonjolea II and OZone jockeyed for position towards the finish line. Ultimately, Bonjolea II’s decision to tack away from OZone allowed the latter to secure a narrow victory, crossing the finish line just two seconds ahead.
