Former standout youth swimmer Nadine Day was recently inducted into the Masters International Swimming Hall of Fame. She credits her older brother, K. Mark Takai, for his unwavering support and encouragement throughout her swimming career and beyond. Takai, a former U.S. Rep. and avid supporter of youth sports in Hawaii, passed away in 2016.
Day, who swam competitively for various clubs and high school, has continued to give back to the swimming community through coaching and volunteer work. She currently serves as the chair of World Aquatics Masters and will oversee the upcoming championships in Doha, Qatar. Day also assists with swim group clinics in Hawaii and stays involved in the sport despite not competing as much herself.
Her accomplishments and dedication to the sport have earned her prestigious honors, including induction into the Hawaii Swimming Hall of Fame and now the Masters International Swimming Hall of Fame. She reflects on her brother’s influence on her leadership style and commitment to serving others, stating that he continues to inspire her even after his passing.
Day’s journey from a talented youth swimmer to a respected leader in the swimming community is a testament to her resilience and passion for the sport. Her ongoing contributions to swimming and commitment to supporting others serve as a fitting tribute to her brother’s legacy.
