Suspect arrested in Pennsylvania in the shooting of Brian Thompson


Luigi Mangione, 26, was arrested in connection to the killing of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson at a McDonald’s in Altoona, Pennsylvania. He was charged with murder and other felonies in New York, and also faces weapons and forgery charges in Pennsylvania. Police found bullet casings with words written on them at the scene of the crime and handwritten papers on Mangione expressing ill will towards corporate America. Thompson was shot in Midtown Manhattan on December 4th and the suspect fled on an electric bike. Police found a backpack connected to the killing containing fake money and a jacket. Mangione was seen in Altoona on December 9th and arrested with multiple fraudulent IDs and a U.S. passport. He is facing charges including forgery, carrying a firearm without a license, tampering with records, possessing instruments of crime, and false identification to law enforcement in Pennsylvania. In New York, he is charged with murder and four weapons felonies. Police are still investigating the case and additional charges related to Thompson’s shooting will be determined by the Manhattan District Attorney’s Office.
