The Garden Island is running a Christmas Fund campaign, sharing stories of families in need this holiday season. Donations are used to purchase gift certificates for families and individuals through social-service agencies. Some of the stories shared include a young couple with a baby in need of baby items, an elderly man who recently found housing and could use household items, a disabled woman who struggles with daily living activities and needs cleaning supplies, a single male with a developmental disability who wants to make his new place feel like home, a young family struggling to make ends meet and wanting to make the holiday special for their son, a young single mom providing for her family and seeking specific gifts for her children, an elderly couple who recently found stable housing and could use household items, a caretaker for a disabled wife and son facing financial difficulty, and a grandmother with custody of grandchildren who recently received housing and seeks gifts for the children. Donations are directly used to provide Christmas presents and groceries for those in need, and anyone making a donation of $200 or more can have their picture published. Additionally, for every $250 donated, the Hale Uluwehi Charitable Foundation will match up to $5,000. Donations can be made through the Zonta-Kauai website or by check.
