The Garden Island is highlighting stories of families and individuals in need this holiday season through their Christmas Fund campaign. Ling, who has been homeless for over 3 years, is working hard to improve her situation despite language barriers. Angel, who has been homeless for 7 years due to mental health issues, could use assistance with new clothing and personal items. Tim, an elementary student with a mild intellectual disability, enjoys playing with toys and could use new clothing and toys. Beverly, an elderly woman who has been homeless for 15 years, recently found subsidized housing and would appreciate gift cards and household items. John, who has been clean and sober for eight and a half months, is working towards stability and a better future through drug counseling and financial assistance.
Donations to the Christmas Fund are used to purchase gift certificates for these individuals and families in need. There are no administrative costs, and donations are directly used to provide Christmas presents and groceries. Those who donate $200 or more can have their picture published in The Garden Island. Additionally, for every $250 donation, Hale Uluwehi Charitable Foundation will match up to $5,000. Donations can be made online at Zonta-Kauai.org or by check to The Zonta Club of Kauai Foundation.
The community is encouraged to support the Christmas Fund and help those facing challenges this holiday season. Every donation, no matter the size, can make a difference in the lives of those in need.
