Ohio dominated the Mid-American Conference Championship game, defeating Miami (Ohio) 38-3 at Ford Field on Saturday. This victory marked Ohio’s first MAC title since 1968, with Parker Navarro leading the way with two rushing touchdowns and two passing touchdowns. Anthony Tyus III also had a standout performance, rushing for 151 yards and a score on 27 carries.
With this win, Ohio secured a spot in the Cure Bowl on Dec. 20 against Conference USA champion Jacksonville State. Offensive coordinator Brian Smith praised Navarro, receiver Coleman Owen, and Tyus III for their contributions to the team’s success. Navarro is on track to become a 1,000-yard rusher to go along with his 2,000-plus passing yards this season.
Head coach Tim Albin commended his team for their stellar performance and efficient game plan. The Bobcats exhibited dominance on both sides of the ball, outgaining Miami 467-189 in total yards. Ohio scored touchdowns on nearly every possession, with Navarro showcasing his dual-threat abilities by passing for 235 yards and running for 67 more.
The Bobcats’ offensive unit, rebuilt heavily from the previous year, showed its strength and resilience throughout the game. Despite an early field goal by Miami, Ohio took control with three first-half touchdowns. The team maintained this momentum in the second half, extending their lead and securing a decisive victory over the RedHawks.
Ohio’s victory in the MAC Championship game marked a significant milestone for the program, ending a 54-year title drought. The team’s strong performance and collaborative effort have earned them a well-deserved spot in the upcoming Cure Bowl, where they will look to continue their winning streak against Jacksonville State.
