Residents of Hawaii unite to give back on Laulima Day

The KHON2 News and Living 808 team recently celebrated Laulima Day, a day dedicated to giving back and spreading aloha throughout Hawaii. From Oahu to Kauai, Maui to Hawaii Island, the team visited various sites across the state, collecting donations of toys, household items, and monetary contributions. Laulima Giving Day, a holiday tradition focused on connecting families through gifts, aims to make a positive impact beyond just material goods.

Families at the event also reflected on the importance of values and privilege, emphasizing the need to give to those who are less fortunate. Businesses and community members alike showed their generosity by participating in the event, with donations pouring in at locations like Ka Makana Alii, Windward Mall, and Pearlridge Mall.

On Maui, the team at Queen Kaahumanu Center spread holiday cheer for families in need, while at the Prince Kuhio Plaza in Hilo, residents like Lynne Takahara contributed handmade donations like quilts.

Statewide, Laulima Day served as a reminder of the power of community coming together to support those in need. Keiki O Ka Aina CEO Momi Akana expressed her gratitude to all the volunteers and supporters who made the day a success.

The event showcased the spirit of giving and the impact it can have on local communities, especially during the holiday season. Through acts of kindness and generosity, Laulima Day brought joy and hope to those in need across Hawaii.
