TCU sweeps Rainbow Wahine in NCAA Tournament opener

In a disappointing result for Hawaii’s women’s volleyball team, they were swept by TCU in the first round of the NCAA Tournament. Despite their 31st consecutive trip to the tournament, Hawaii struggled offensively and failed to win a set for the first time since 1997. TCU’s Melanie Parra led the way with 24 kills, guiding her team to victory.

Hawaii coach Robyn Ah Mow acknowledged that their serve-pass game was not up to par and they made too many errors. TCU’s strong performances, particularly by Parra, proved to be a significant challenge for Hawaii throughout the match. Despite rallying in the final set, Hawaii was unable to overcome TCU’s advantage.

TCU coach Jason Williams praised Hawaii’s talent, particularly acknowledging Caylen Alexander as one of the top hitters in the country. The match highlighted the importance of the serve and pass battle, with TCU ultimately prevailing. Hawaii’s seniors, including Kate Lang and Tayli Ikenaga, played their final matches with the team, reflecting on their season and expressing disappointment at the loss.

Overall, TCU’s strong performance and strategic play secured their victory over Hawaii, ending Hawaii’s season with a season-low 37 kills. Despite the loss, Hawaii’s team remained resilient and determined to learn from this experience.
