Multinational Police Mission in Haiti refutes claims of unpaid wages, says Conflict News

The Multinational Security Support Mission to Haiti (MSS), led by Kenyan forces, has refuted reports that some officers have gone unpaid for months. As violence from armed gangs continues to plague Haiti, nearly 20 Kenyan officers were reported to have resigned over delays in pay and poor working conditions. The mission, which has struggled to make a significant impact in Haiti since June, has faced challenges related to funding and staffing. The United States, the primary financial supporter, is uncertain about continuing funding beyond 2025. This lack of support has led to calls for a UN peacekeeping mission in Haiti, despite concerns over previous UN interventions. Since the assassination of former President Jovenel Moise in 2021, security in Haiti has deteriorated, with the Kenyan force failing to curb gang violence. The country’s lack of stable governance, combined with the absence of federal elections, has further exacerbated the situation. Last month, interim Prime Minister Garry Conille was fired, raising questions about corruption within the transitional government. As Haiti faces ongoing challenges, the MSS remains committed to supporting the Haitian National Police in addressing gang networks and restoring stability.
