The Garden Island is featuring daily stories about families and individuals facing challenges this holiday season and in need of assistance through the Christmas Fund. The fund, managed by Zonta Club members, provides gift certificates to those in need through social-service agencies.
Some of the individuals in need include Nia, a 13-year-old with disabilities requiring financial assistance for a more accessible home environment, and Kai, a 33-year-old with cerebral palsy in need of funding for wipes. Other stories include Billy, Moku, Dee, Malu, Lehua, Gary, Annie, and David, all in need of various forms of support.
Donations can be made through the Zonta-Kauai.org website or by sending checks to The Zonta Club of Kauai Foundation. Donors contributing $200 or more can have their picture published in The Garden Island, and the Hale Uluwehi Charitable Foundation will match every $250 donation up to $5,000.
The Christmas Fund ensures that every donation goes directly towards providing Christmas presents and groceries to those in need, with no administrative costs involved. Community members are encouraged to hold fundraisers for the fund, and any help is greatly appreciated by those benefiting from the assistance.
