The search for the gunman who killed UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson has entered its third day, prompting the health insurance company’s parent company to urge privacy for his family. The company is working with law enforcement to bring the perpetrator to justice while expressing gratitude for the outpouring of support they have received.
Thompson, a highly respected executive at UnitedHealthcare, was shot outside the Hilton Midtown Manhattan by a masked gunman who fled the scene. The New York Police Department released surveillance images of a person of interest and is analyzing clues, including a cellphone and bullet casings inscribed with words related to insurance claims strategies. The motive for the shooting is still under investigation.
Authorities believe the gunman arrived by bus from Atlanta and stayed at a hostel in New York, using a fake ID. Police are offering a reward for information leading to an arrest and conviction in the case.
Brian Thompson, a resident of Maple Grove, Minnesota, had a successful career at UnitedHealth Group, where he started in 2004 and rose through the ranks to become CEO of UnitedHealthcare. He is survived by his wife and two sons. Colleagues and friends described Thompson as a devoted father, friend, and a respected leader in the health insurance industry. The investigation into his tragic death continues.
