Hawaii Women’s Volleyball Team Continues 31-Year NCAA Tournament Streak
EUGENE, Ore. – The Hawaii women’s volleyball team has arrived in Oregon for their 31st consecutive appearance in the NCAA Tournament, a streak that began in 1993. This extraordinary run showcases the legacy and culture of Rainbow Wahine volleyball, built by legendary coach Dave Shoji and continued by current coach Robyn Ah Mow.
Despite being a young team, the Hawaii squad is determined to uphold the program’s rich tradition. Freshman Miliana Sylvester emphasized the importance of defending Hawaii’s reputation as a perennial NCAA Tournament contender. With a final RPI of 34, Hawaii faces challenges regarding seeding, but their resilience and determination have propelled them to yet another postseason appearance.
Ah Mow, who was a player on the 1993 team that initiated this streak, continues to instill a culture of hard work and grit within the team. This mentality was evident in Hawaii’s season opener against SMU, where they overcame a significant deficit to secure a victory.
As they gear up to face TCU in the first round of the NCAA Tournament, the Rainbow Wahine are ready to prove themselves once again. With a history of defying odds and exceeding expectations, Hawaii’s women’s volleyball team is poised to make a statement in Eugene, Oregon.
