The inaugural Waikoloa Hill Climb, hosted by the Hawaii Cycling Club in partnership with Lavaman, took place on November 17th, challenging riders with an 11.8-mile climb up Waikoloa Road. The event offered breathtaking views of the surrounding landscape and ocean, with participants racing against the wind to reach the summit of 2,442 feet. Sam Anderson-Moxley emerged as the top finisher, completing the course in 49 minutes and 7 seconds. In the women’s category, Tina Eakin stood out as the fastest female, crossing the line in 57:14. Noteworthy was 80-year-old Gerald Gruber, who overcame mechanical issues to showcase his dedication to cycling. The success of the event has solidified its place in the HCC calendar, hinting at a promising future for the Waikoloa Hill Climb.
