Cam Stone, a player on the Hawaii football team, had a standout season and was named to the 2024 All-Mountain West first team. Stone had previously turned down opportunities to leave the Hawaii program but decided to stay and work on his game, which paid off in the end.
After transferring to Hawaii in January 2023 and participating in spring training, Stone faced uncertainty when the coaching staff underwent changes. However, Stone decided to trust the new defensive coordinator, Dennis Thurman, who helped him improve his skills and focus on his game.
Stone started all 12 games of the season, making 38 tackles, including two interceptions, and blocking a kick. At the team banquet, Stone was named the team’s most valuable player. Despite leaving Hawaii later in December, Stone plans to continue his training in Houston and participate in the Hula Bowl in January.
In other Mountain West news, Boise State’s Ashton Jeanty was named Offensive Player of the Year, while UNLV’s Jackson Woodard was chosen as the top defensive player. UNLV’s Ricky White III and Caden Chittenden were named the top specialist and best freshman, respectively. Boise State’s Spencer Danielson was recognized as Coach of the Year.
Overall, Stone’s dedication to the Hawaii football program paid off with a well-deserved spot on the All-Mountain West first team and acknowledgment as the team’s MVP.
