The Rotary Club of Kauai Lights on Rice holiday parade will not end in darkness this year, thanks to a last-minute effort to decorate the historic County Building lawn. After the Festival of Lights relocated, there was a concern that there would be no lights at the County Building. Chief of Staff Sarah Blane led the initiative, bringing together crews from various county departments, utility companies, and rental companies to hang lights on the trees. Mayor Derek Kawakami even pitched in to help. Despite the last-minute nature of the project, crews worked diligently to ensure that the park would be lit up for the parade on Friday. Meanwhile, staff at the Kauai Museum looked out at the scene with gratitude, referring to the effort as “saving Christmas.” Amidst the hustle and bustle, a Department of Water crew also arrived to address a water junction box issue, but managed to work around the lighting efforts. The community can now look forward to a festive atmosphere at the County Building for the holiday parade, thanks to the collaborative efforts of all involved.
