CHRISTMAS FUND: Widower in need of some holiday cheer

The Garden Island is sharing heartwarming stories of families and individuals facing challenges this holiday season in their Christmas Fund campaign. Donations are used to purchase gift certificates for those in need through social-service agencies.

Stories include Mark, who recently lost his wife Marie and could use some cheer this season, and Abe and Abby, a formerly homeless couple in need of household essentials. Mina, a single female navigating life on her own, requests kitchen and laundry supplies. Single mom Lehua, celebrating sobriety with her seven-month-old child, needs toys, diapers, and gift cards. Margret, who went from living in her car to having her own home, needs items to make her house a home. Single male Ikaika, adjusting to housing after being homeless, seeks assistance with basic necessities and entertainment.

Donations to the Christmas Fund are used directly for Christmas gifts and groceries, with no administrative costs. Fundraisers are welcomed, and donors of $200 or more can have their photo published in TGI. Hale Uluwehi Charitable Foundation will match up to $5,000 for every $250 donation. Donations can be made online at Zonta-Kauai.org or by check to Zonta Club of Kauai Foundation. A little help can go a long way this holiday season.
