Human rights group Amnesty International has released a report accusing Israel of committing genocide against Palestinians in Gaza. The report, based on extensive research and interviews, claims that Israel has engaged in acts that violate the 1948 Genocide Convention, including indiscriminate killings and deliberate harm to the civilian population.
Amnesty’s secretary-general, Agnes Callamard, stated that Israel has treated Palestinians in Gaza as subhuman and has persisted in committing genocidal acts despite warnings and legal decisions. The report found evidence of genocidal intent by Israeli officials, who have dehumanized Palestinians and justified violent actions against them.
The report also criticizes the international community for its failure to take action to stop the violence in Gaza. Callamard called for governments to move beyond expressions of regret and take strong and sustained international action to end the genocide.
Israeli authorities have not responded to the report and have denied allegations of committing genocide, claiming self-defense against Hamas attacks. However, Amnesty found evidence that officials in charge of managing the war in Gaza have called for or justified genocidal acts.
The report calls on the international community to stop sending weapons to Israel and to pressure the government to end its atrocities in Gaza. Amnesty warns that the continued violence in Gaza will remain a stain on the collective conscience of the international community if action is not taken to stop the genocide.
