Businessmen Elon Musk and Vivek Ramaswamy have been tapped by President-Elect Donald Trump to head the Department of Government Efficiency, focusing on cutting government spending, reducing regulations, and restructuring federal agencies. They will meet with House Republicans on Dec. 5 to discuss major reform ideas to achieve regulatory rescissions, administrative reductions, and cost savings. The goal is to revive the principle of limited government as part of the “Save America” Movement. In a Wall Street Journal op-ed, Musk and Ramaswamy outlined their plan to oversee a massive reduction in the federal workforce by working with embedded appointees in agencies to identify the minimum number of employees needed for each agency to perform its mandated functions. Trump has expressed support for these efforts and previously met with House Republicans in a closed-door meeting where he backed House Speaker Rep. Mike Johnson for a second term. The focus of the Department of Government Efficiency will be on dismantling government bureaucracy, cutting wasteful expenditures, and streamlining federal agencies.
