Rebel Groups Initiate Offensive Strikes on Aleppo City in Syria | Breaking News

Syria’s army has reported ongoing clashes with rebel groups in Aleppo city, with at least four people killed as the rebels launched attacks for the first time in years. The rebels launched a ground attack after using car bombs and were clashing with government forces on the city’s western edge. The Syrian army stated that it was able to repel the major offensive and retake control of certain positions. The rebels, led by Hay’et Tahrir al-Shams, captured a dozen towns and villages in the northwestern province of Aleppo. Russian and Syrian warplanes have bombed rebel-held areas in an attempt to push back the offensive. The United Nations reported that over 14,000 people, half of whom are children, have been displaced due to the violence. Aleppo residents are fearful of war breaking out and being displaced from their homes once again. Syria’s civil war, which began in 2011, has drawn in foreign powers such as Russia, Iran, and Hezbollah. Iran has expressed its continued support for Syria in their fight against terrorism, while the Kremlin has voiced support for the government of Syria to restore order in the district. Reports of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad flying to Moscow for talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin have not been confirmed.
