The 10th annual Kauai Writers Conference brought together some of America’s most prominent storytellers at the Royal Sonesta Kauai Resort in Lihue. The event awarded full scholarships to 40 students from various high schools in Hawaii, allowing them to learn from industry experts and renowned authors such as Marta Kauffman and Billy Collins. The conference featured master classes on poetry, character development, and historical fiction, as well as discussions on adapting written work for film and TV productions.
English teacher Jaben Schalk from Hawaii Technology Academy praised the conference for exposing his students to top-tier writers and inspiring them to believe in their own writing abilities. Author Lyn Butler played a vital role in securing scholarships for the students at HTA and shared her own insights with attendees. The event showcased the diversity and talent of writers from around the world, making it one of the premier literary conferences in the country.
Event director David Katz hailed this year’s conference as the best yet and encouraged aspiring writers to participate in the future. Registration for next year’s event will open in January, with online workshops available for those unable to attend in person. The Kauai Writers Conference continues to grow in popularity and attract writers from diverse backgrounds, providing a platform for creativity and collaboration in a stunning island setting.
