The claim that Pam Bondi posted on Facebook promising to investigate Nancy Pelosi is false. A Facebook post circulating online claimed that Bondi, President-elect Donald Trump’s pick for U.S. attorney general, would investigate Pelosi’s finances. However, there is no record of this post on Bondi’s actual Facebook profile. The post was shared by a satirical Facebook account impersonating Bondi.
Pelosi’s actual assets range from at least $90 million to well over $300 million, as reported in her 2023 financial disclosure. The compensation for most House members, including Pelosi, is $174,000 per year, while the House speaker’s salary is $223,500.
The Facebook post in question is an example of “stolen satire,” where content originally presented as parody is reposted in a way that makes it appear authentic, misleading readers. The parody Facebook account that shared the post later changed its profile name to “Not Pam Bondi” and was removed.
Bondi, a former Florida attorney general, did represent Trump in his first impeachment trial and supported his presidential campaign. However, there are no credible reports of Bondi promising to investigate Pelosi. Trump nominated Bondi to be the next U.S. attorney general after former Florida Rep. Matt Gaetz removed himself from consideration for the role. Bondi did not share the Facebook post about investigating Pelosi, and the claim is false.
