The Hawaii women’s volleyball team dominated the Big West conference awards, with junior Caylen Alexander named Player of the Year, senior Kate Lang named Setter of the Year, and senior Tayli Ikenaga earning Libero of the Year honors. Alexander leads the NCAA Division I in kills and Lang led the conference in assists, making her only the third setter in UH history to amass 4,000 assists and 1,000 digs. Ikenaga posted impressive defensive stats with double-figure digs in 25 of 28 matches.
In addition to these individual awards, the team had several players recognized for their contributions, including middle blocker Miliana Sylvester on the All-Freshman team and sophomore Tali Hakas and junior Jacyn Bamis receiving honorable mentions. The team’s success under head coach Caroline Walters earned her Big West Coach of the Year honors, while UC Santa Barbara’s Eva Travis was named Freshman of the Year.
With the No. 2 seed in the Big West tournament, Hawaii is set to compete in the semifinals against the winner of UC Davis and UC Irvine. The team’s strong performance this season, highlighted by their individual award winners, puts them in a strong position to compete for the conference championship.
