Former Soros Fund Management chief investment officer Scott Bessent has been nominated by President-elect Donald Trump to lead the Treasury Department. Other nominations include Rep. Lori Chavez-DeRemer as the head of the Labor Department, Dr. Janette Nesheiwat as U.S. Surgeon General, and Ross Vought as Office of Management and Budget director. In addition, Trump has also tapped Pam Bondi, a former Attorney General of Florida, for the role of attorney general.
Bessent, if approved by the Senate, would work to maintain the U.S. Dollar’s status as the “Reserve Currency of the World.” Chavez-DeRemer is focused on creating opportunities for American workers, while Nesheiwat aims to promote access to affordable healthcare. Bondi’s nomination comes after former Rep. Matt Gaetz withdrew his nomination as the Department of Justice investigates allegations against him.
Among other nominations are Marty Makary for Food and Drug Administration commissioner, Dave Weldon for Centers for Disease Control director, and Ross Vought for Office of Management and Budget director. Additionally, Scott Turner has been tapped to lead the Department of Housing and Urban Development.
Overall, Trump’s selections cover a range of positions within his administration, from key Cabinet roles to Department heads and other key positions. The nominees bring a variety of backgrounds and expertise to their respective roles, with a focus on issues such as healthcare, economic policy, and workforce development.
