Israeli airstrikes in Beirut result in death of 11 and injuries of many more as diplomats advocate for peace treaty

At least 11 people were killed and dozens injured in central Beirut as Israeli airstrikes continued to devastate Lebanon. A building was destroyed, leaving a crater in the ground, marking the fourth strike on the Lebanese capital in less than a week. Emergency responders were searching for survivors in the rubble. Additionally, a drone strike in Tyre resulted in one death and one injury. The Israeli military did not issue evacuation warnings prior to the strikes. Heavy ground fighting between Israeli forces and Hezbollah militants in southern Lebanon continues, with Israeli troops advancing further into the country.

US envoy Amos Hochstein visited the region to broker a ceasefire deal as the conflict escalated into a full-on war, resulting in over 3,500 deaths and 15,000 injuries in Lebanon. Approximately 1.2 million people, a quarter of the Lebanese population, have been displaced. On the Israeli side, around 90 soldiers and nearly 50 civilians have been killed in the conflict.

Diplomats are urgently working to bring an end to the violence as the situation intensifies. The ongoing conflict has resulted in significant casualties on both sides, with civilians bearing the brunt of the violence. As the fighting continues, the international community is calling for an immediate ceasefire to prevent further loss of life and ensure the safety and security of all those affected by the conflict.
