Heartbreaking Loss in Lancaster Shooting and Arson Incident
LANCASTER, Calif. (KABC) – The family of Edwin Fernando García, one of four victims killed in a tragic shooting and arson in Lancaster last weekend, is sharing their grief for the first time. A tearful Maria Ester Olivares expressed disbelief at the loss of her 24-year-old grandson, recalling him as a loving person who made everyone feel included. “He had a very special way of making everyone feel part of," said his cousin Katherine Olivares.
The violent attack claimed the lives of García and his fiancée, 26-year-old Christine Aca-ac, who, along with Christine’s brother, Janvi Maquindang, 21, and his partner Matthew Montebello, were living at the home. Neighbors have described the couple as quiet and respectful, emphasizing the shock felt throughout the close-knit community after the young victims were murdered.
GoFundMe pages have been established to assist with funeral costs and other expenses, particularly for Christine, who was the guardian of her teenage nieces. Investigators have yet to disclose the motive behind the shooting.
In connection with the case, 19-year-old Miguel Sandoval has been arrested; authorities have not revealed his relationship to the victims. A 16-year-old girl who was present during the incident reported hearing gunshots before locking herself in her room and calling 911. While unharmed, she now faces the emotional burden of the traumatic experience.
The community is urged to provide any information to aid the ongoing investigation by contacting the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department or Crime Stoppers. The family remains hopeful for justice as they navigate this heartbreaking loss.
