Britain has become directly involved in the Ukraine war as their Storm Shadow missiles were used to strike targets inside Russia, according to Moscow’s ambassador, Andrei Kelin. This move follows months of requests from Kyiv and approval from Western allies including the US. The missiles were fired into Russia just days after US President Joe Biden authorized the same policy shift, showing increased involvement of NATO staff and British personnel in the conflict. Kelin also pointed out the use of mercenaries from different countries on the Ukrainian side, suggesting that they too are directly involved in the war.
The missiles used, Storm Shadow cruise missiles, have a strike capability of nearly 200 miles and are capable of hitting deeper into Russian territory. They were launched as a response to reports of an intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) fired into Ukraine by Russia. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy condemned the attack, calling it a display of fear from Russia, which was confirmed by UK Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer’s spokesperson as deeply concerning.
During a press briefing, the Russian foreign ministry refused to comment on reports of Russia’s missile launch into Ukraine, highlighting the escalating tensions in the conflict. The use of military equipment by both sides, including the Storm Shadow missiles and ICBMs, reflects the intensifying nature of the conflict and the growing involvement of foreign powers in the war in Ukraine.
