In a recent development, Russian President Vladimir Putin has announced that Russia launched a hypersonic medium-range ballistic missile attack on a Ukrainian military facility. Putin has also issued a warning that Russia could target military facilities in countries that have allowed Ukraine to use their missiles to strike Russia. This threat is mainly directed towards the US and UK after they agreed to let Ukraine use their long-range weapons on Russian territory, causing anger in the Kremlin.
Putin stated, “We believe that we have the right to use our weapons against military facilities of the countries that allow to use their weapons against our facilities.” He further added that any escalation of aggressive actions would be met with a resolute response in a mirrored manner.
The possibility of Russia attacking British or American military facilities would signify a significant escalation in the ongoing war. If such an attack were to happen, it could be the first time Russia has deliberately targeted NATO soil since the beginning of the conflict.
Earlier comments from Russian foreign ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova indicated that a US anti-missile base in Poland was considered a priority target for potential neutralization. The base in Redzikowo has been under development since the 2000s and was recently commissioned during Barack Obama’s presidency. The heightened tensions in the region highlight the growing threat of a potential military conflict involving Russia and Western countries.
