Beko Europe to make 1,935 employees redundant: What is the company’s strategy moving forward?

Beko Europe is undergoing a major business transformation plan in Italy, which includes the closure of two sites and nearly 2,000 redundancies. The decision comes after a review of the company’s European business, which highlighted underperforming financial results due to increased competition and weakened demand in the industry.

The company plans to optimize its operations and reshape its presence in Italy to create a sustainable footprint. Italy will become Beko’s center of excellence for industrial design and cooking, with an investment of €110 million to design new products using robotics, automation, and digitalization. The company will launch a new suite of built-in products at its plants in Melano and Cassinetta di Biandronno.

Significant changes are also planned for the Laundry and Refrigeration divisions. The Siena site will not receive further investments due to the loss of competitiveness, while the Comunanza site is in a critical condition economically. A potential conversion of existing plants will be explored in both locations.

Redundancies are estimated at 1,151 for production units in Cassinetta, Siena, and Comunanza. The company will also adjust central functions in Milan and Fabriano to remove duplicate structures, affecting 678 positions.

Beko Europe acknowledges that the plan is difficult but necessary for a sustainable and competitive future. The company will focus on reshaping its manufacturing base in Italy to remain a key decision-making center for strategic functions.
