Hawaii dominates Nevada football in another messy, injury-ridden game

The Nevada football team suffered a disappointing 34-13 loss to Hawaii in a game marked by penalties, injuries, and overall dominance by the Rainbow Warriors. Despite entering the game winless against FBS opponents this season, Hawaii’s offense led by quarterback Brayden Schager proved to be nearly unstoppable, rushing for four touchdowns and an overall 242 yards. Nevada’s offense struggled to get going, only finding the end zone once on a quick touchdown pass to Marcus Bellon after halftime.

Chubba Purdy got his first start at quarterback for Nevada, but the team struggled to capitalize on opportunities and convert key plays. The Wolf Pack’s ground game was held to under 100 yards for the second straight game, and penalties once again plagued the team’s performance. Numerous injuries during the game added to Nevada’s challenges, further complicating their ability to compete effectively.

With the loss, Nevada’s chances of a bowl berth have dwindled as they fell to 3-6 overall and 0-3 in Mountain West play. The team now looks ahead to a matchup against Colorado State next Saturday, led by former Nevada head coach Jay Norvell, who has the Rams at 5-3 overall and 3-0 in the MW. Nevada will need to regroup and focus on improving their performance if they hope to bounce back in their upcoming conference game.
