Freeman Shines, But Yankees Avoid Sweep in World Series Showdown
NEW YORK (KABC) — Freddie Freeman made headlines during Game 4 of the World Series by hitting his fourth consecutive home run in this matchup, further solidifying his case for World Series MVP. The first baseman’s historic homer marked his sixth straight home run dating back to the end of the 2021 World Series with Atlanta. With a remarkable 10 RBIs in the series, Freeman set a new record for most RBIs by a single player in a World Series and became the first player to hit homers in six consecutive World Series games.
Despite Freeman’s dazzling performance, the Los Angeles Dodgers could not capitalize on their early lead, ultimately losing to the New York Yankees 11-4. The defeat allowed the Yankees to avoid a series sweep, while the Dodgers still hold a 3-1 lead in the best-of-seven matchup. Game 5 is set for Wednesday at Yankee Stadium, with the possibility of Games 6 and 7 returning to Los Angeles.
Freeman’s first-inning blast put Los Angeles up 2-1, but the Yankees quickly countered. Gleyber Torres nearly connected for a home run of his own, only to have Mookie Betts rob him with a leaping catch that led to fan interference and two ejections. Later in the match, Anthony Volpe’s grand slam and multiple runs in the eighth inning propelled New York to an 11-4 victory, overwhelming the Dodgers.
Looking ahead, Game 5 promises another intense contest as Jack Flaherty faces Gerrit Cole, renewing their battle from Game 1. As the series progresses, all eyes will be on Freeman and the Dodgers as they strive to secure the championship.
