The University of Hawaii soccer team secured the top seed in the Big West and hosting rights in the conference tournament with a 2-1 victory over UC Santa Barbara. The Rainbow Wahine improved to 11-7-1 overall and 7-1-1 in conference play, while UC Santa Barbara dropped to 6-5-8 overall.
In the match, Hawaii fell behind 1-0 at halftime but equalized with a goal from Fabiola Zamora in the 68th minute. Nalani Damacion then scored the game-winner with a header in the 83rd minute, her seventh game-winning goal of the season. Zamora also made a crucial save with her right foot in the final minute to secure Hawaii’s victory.
With one regular season match remaining against Long Beach State, Hawaii will have the chance to finish strong before heading into the Big West Conference tournament at the Waipio Peninsula Soccer Complex. The tournament will see Hawaii face off in the semifinals against an opponent to be determined.
