Seven Inmates Hospitalized After Suspected Overdose at Men’s Central Jail
LOS ANGELES (KABC) – A suspected overdose incident at the Men’s Central Jail in downtown Los Angeles resulted in seven inmates being hospitalized early Tuesday morning. The Los Angeles Fire Department (LAFD) responded to the scene shortly before 7 a.m. following a request from the L.A. County Sheriff’s Department. The inmates were believed to have inhaled or been exposed to an unidentified substance within the facility.
The LAFD confirmed that all seven individuals were transported to local hospitals for evaluation and treatment. One inmate is reported to be in critical condition, while the other six are in stable condition. In an unexpected turn, seven custody deputies were also taken to the hospital later in the day as a precaution. They reported symptoms potentially linked to the earlier overdose incident while conducting a search in the dormitory housing area before inmates were returned. Fortunately, all deputies were conscious and in stable health.
