Ukrainian President Zelenskyy warns that Russia’s war is expanding beyond borders | Updates on Russia-Ukraine conflict

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has raised concerns about the involvement of North Korean soldiers in Russia’s military campaign in Ukraine, stating that this internationalizes the war beyond the borders of the warring parties. Reports suggest that around 10,000 North Korean troops have been sent to reinforce Russian forces in Ukraine, prompting Western leaders to warn about the potential repercussions on relations in the Indo-Pacific region.

Zelenskyy has informed South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol about the presence of 3,000 North Korean soldiers near the Ukrainian front line, with expectations of their deployment increasing to 12,000. This development has led to discussions between the US, NATO, and South Korea to enhance cooperation, intelligence sharing, and develop responses to Pyongyang’s involvement.

In Washington, White House officials have discussed plans to deliver additional military support to Ukraine, including Patriot and ARAAM missiles, armoured vehicles, and artillery systems. President Joe Biden has expressed concern about North Korean troops in the Kursk region and emphasized that Ukraine should retaliate if they cross into the country.

Amidst escalating attacks on Ukrainian cities like Kyiv and Kharkiv, Russian forces have captured several towns in the eastern Donetsk region. The presence of North Korean troops, combined with the ongoing conflict, underscores the complexity and internationalization of the war in Ukraine. The developments have raised alarms among global leaders and highlighted the urgent need for a diplomatic resolution to the crisis.
