The Daniel K. Inouye International Airport in Honolulu has received a $17 million grant from the federal government to upgrade the fire alarm system at the International Arrivals Building and the fire sprinkler system in Terminal 2. This funding is part of the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act Congress passed in 2021. Senator Brian Schatz, Chair of the Senate Appropriations Subcommittee on Transportation, praised the new federal funding for allowing the airport to continue its efforts to modernize and improve for the future. Schatz wrote to the Federal Aviation Authority Administrator Michael Whitaker to advocate for the funding requests made by the Hawaii Department of Transportation. In the past, the FAA has also allocated around $42 million for improvements at airports in Honolulu, Kona, and Kahului. This latest grant will help enhance safety measures at the airport and ensure a better experience for travelers. The upgrades are part of a larger push to improve infrastructure across the country and create more jobs. The Daniel K. Inouye International Airport is a vital hub for travel to and from Hawaii, and these improvements will enhance its capabilities and efficiency for years to come.
