Costa Mesa Man Charged with Murdering Girlfriend, Leaving Body in Trash Can

COSTA MESA, Calif. — In a shocking incident, Daniel Allen Aldrich, 49, has been charged with the murder of his girlfriend, 38-year-old Julie Anne Sanetra, whose body was discovered in a trash can at his home. Aldrich is facing one felony count of murder alongside an enhancement for the personal use of a weapon.

The alleged crime occurred last Sunday after a night of drinking led to an argument between the couple. Prosecutors claim Aldrich strangled Sanetra and then inflicted further harm by slitting her wrist with a folding knife. Reports indicate that after committing the act, Aldrich left her body on the couch and continued watching television before going to bed.

The following day, he allegedly discarded Sanetra’s body in a trash can outside his residence and fled to his mother’s home in Glendale. Landscapers discovered her remains when they were called to the site the next day.

Orange County District Attorney Todd Spitzer expressed deep concern over the incident, stating, "Julie Sanetra did not deserve to be strangled and stuffed into a trashcan like a piece of garbage. The callousness of this crime shocks the conscience, and we will do everything to get justice for Julie and her loved ones."

Aldrich’s arraignment is set for an upcoming date, as he faces serious consequences if convicted. This tragic case has garnered local attention, highlighting issues surrounding domestic violence and the need for community awareness and prevention measures. The Orange County District Attorney’s office is committed to pursuing justice for Sanetra and ensuring accountability in the wake of this violent crime.
