Televangelist Apollo Quiboloy, known for the Kingdom of Jesus Christ church, was arrested in the Philippines after a two-week stand-off with law enforcement. Quiboloy faced accusations of human trafficking and sexual assault in Hawaii and other locations. Despite being a close friend of former President Rodrigo Duterte, Quiboloy fell out of favor with current President Ferdinand Marcos, Jr.
The dramatic arrest involved thousands of police and military personnel facing off against Quiboloy’s followers. Quiboloy and his aides surrendered after the tense situation. Quiboloy’s American legal team, led by Hawaii attorney Mike Green, defended his actions and character, claiming the arrest was politically motivated.
The accusations against Quiboloy include bringing young girls to Hawaii and Los Angeles to raise funds through selling baked goods, with reports of trafficking and abuse. The case also involved the seizure of Quiboloy’s private jet in 2018 and indictments of church members, including Felina Salinas, for their involvement in trafficking and organizing sex partners for the pastor.
The FBI has been investigating the charges against Quiboloy and church members, but it remains unclear whether the Philippines or the U.S. will prosecute first. Despite his denial of the allegations, Quiboloy faces significant legal challenges and public scrutiny. The case has been ongoing for several years, with Quiboloy resorting to legal actions against news outlets that reported on the accusations.
