Early voting is underway in Florida and Wisconsin in the United States as the latest polling data shows a nearly deadlocked race between Republican candidate Donald Trump and Democratic candidate Kamala Harris. The Washington Post survey of registered voters in seven battleground states reveals a tie between the two candidates, with 47 percent supporting each candidate. Among likely voters, Harris is leading with 49 percent compared to Trump’s 48 percent.
Early voting has begun in 47 states, with record turnout reported in Georgia last week. Alabama, Mississippi, and New Hampshire do not offer early voting, requiring an eligible reason to vote by mail. The Washington Post survey includes more than 5,000 registered voters and shows a statistical tie between Trump and Harris, although Trump is slightly ahead in the average of surveys.
Harris and Trump have been campaigning vigorously, with Harris holding moderated conversations with former Republican Liz Cheney in battleground states. Trump has criticized this partnership, calling Cheney a “War Hawk.” Trump maintains a lead in Arizona and North Carolina among registered voters, while Harris is polling strongly in Georgia, Michigan, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin. Harris has also significantly outpaced Trump in fundraising, raising over $1 billion compared to Trump’s $283 million.
Trump also experienced a legal victory when the Supreme Court declined to hear an appeal from his former fixer, Michael Cohen, who had sued Trump for retaliating against him. Cohen had previously pleaded guilty to nine criminal counts related to campaign finance violations during the 2016 election year.
