The Vessel, a popular architectural structure in Manhattan’s Hudson Yards, recently reopened after implementing new safety features following four suicides on the site. The sculpture, which features 154 flights of stairs providing views of the West Side and the Hudson River, had been closed since July 2021. Workers installed steel safety mesh along the outer perimeter to prevent further incidents. The Vessel originally opened in 2019 and has been a popular tourist attraction, drawing about 2 million visitors annually. Visitors can now purchase tickets online for $10 or visit for free on Thursdays. The top floor remains closed as it continues to receive safety updates. Officials are hopeful that the reopening of The Vessel will bring more people to the area. The sculpture was designed by English designer Thomas Heatherwick to be entered and explored. The site offers unique views that change daily depending on the weather and other factors. Despite the recent incidents, the area remains a popular destination for tourists and locals alike. Contributing businesses did not offer a comment on the reopening of The Vessel. If you or someone you know is in crisis, help is available by calling, texting, or chatting at 988 or 988lifeline.org.
