Legal Scrutiny Directed Toward Elon Musk for Daily $1M Payouts at Trump Rally

Billionaire Elon Musk, CEO of Tesla and X owner, has pledged to give away $1 million each day until the November election to someone who signs his online petition supporting Republican Donald Trump. The first $1 million prize was awarded at a PAC event in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, with Musk handing a check to the lucky winner, John Dreher. The legality of these cash payments has raised concerns, with Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro calling it “deeply concerning” and suggesting that law enforcement should look into it.

Election law experts have pointed out that federal law prohibits making cash payments to voters with the intention of inducing them to cast a vote or get registered, punishable by prison time. Musk’s America PAC, which he founded in support of Trump’s campaign, is helping mobilize and register voters in battleground states. The event in Harrisburg is part of Musk’s efforts to rally support behind Trump and encourage early voting.

Musk, the world’s richest person according to Forbes, has contributed at least $75 million to America PAC, making the group a significant part of Trump’s reelection bid. The petition Musk is asking people to sign supports the First and Second Amendments, guaranteeing freedom of speech and the right to bear arms. Attendees of the PAC event had to sign the petition, providing America PAC with contact details for potential voters to mobilize for Trump.

Musk’s support for Republican causes and Trump has increased, with Trump stating that he would appoint Musk to head a government efficiency commission if reelected. The entrepreneur’s actions and donations are seen as crucial in Trump’s bid for the White House, with Musk warning that a Harris victory would be “the last election” and claiming that the two assassination attempts against Trump prove he is disrupting the status quo.
