Three people have died and eight others were injured in a shooting near a Mississippi homecoming football game. The incident occurred after an altercation between young men during a trail ride celebration following the Holmes County Consolidated School’s homecoming game. Some injured victims were airlifted to a hospital in Jackson, while others were transported by ambulances. Authorities are currently searching for suspects in connection to the shooting, with assistance from the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation. The victims who lost their lives were identified as Martel Gibson, Shundra Chestnut, and John Jenkins. This shooting marks the third mass shooting in the South within a month, following incidents in Alabama and Georgia. A suspect was recently arrested in connection to the Birmingham shooting, while a 14-year-old and his father were indicted in the Apalachee High School shooting in Georgia. The community is in shock and mourning after these tragic events. The authorities are working diligently to bring justice and resolution to these senseless acts of violence.
